Thread Works ‘08
~ Exhibition of the Textile Design students at Stainless Gallery~
Delhi, June 10th, 2007: Pearl Academy of Fashion graduates of B.A. Hons Textile Design course recently presented Thread Works ’08 – an exhibition showcasing their final graduating works. The exhibition was held at Stainless Gallery, MIRA Complex, Mathura Road, New Delhi on June 2nd & 3rd, 2008.
The gamut of themes explored by the students of Textile design range from montage of childhood to Indian Goddess, from history to Indian festivals, from home furnishing to handloom and many others. Judges of the event Rakesh Thakore, reputed designer & Director Abraham & Thakore & Padmini Sharma, Head – Designer, Ravvisant had a tough time deciding the winners.
The themes showcased at the event included ideas like Story telling, Rhythm in Nature, Classique, Lounge, Coliseum, Classically Modren, Confusion, Tandav, Exuberant, Geometric Abstracts, The Invertebrates and Electic Mix etc. which were quiet different and artistic.
The Textile design course combines traditional materials and processes with innovation in order to provide exciting and contemporary materials-based textile design in print and weave. It develops practical skills, creative judgement and professional confidence in designing, making and evaluating textiles. Studio work encourages student-centered learning and helps in building self-reliance, encourages experimentation and promotes enthusiasm for the field of textiles.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. AKG Nair – Group Director, Pearl Academy of Fashion said, “Textile feature in every aspect of our daily life and textile designers have the opportunity to shape fundamentally the way we live. The industry is also receiving global recognition with many international designers now sourcing fabrics from India. This practice led course is designed to initiate and encourage change and innovation in the designing of textiles.”
The design programmes at Pearl Academy of Fashion cover foundation areas that strive to inculcate in the students the ability to visualize and represent ideas and concepts, understanding and application of design fundamentals, understanding of material and material manipulation, understanding of cultural manifestation and contexts, and their relevance to design, effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
