Srila Mookherjee

Artist

Following her college education in Ceramics at National Institute of Design, she spent several months working in a ceramic design studio in Finland, gaining experience. She then went on to London where she first picked up the art of glass blowing under the tutelage of Anthony Stern. When she returned to India several years later, she set up my studio, sourcing all my material and equipment indigenously. Over 2 decades later, she continue to practice my craft and create pieces from molten glass, always striving to explore and challenge the possibilities of this exciting medium. Every piece she create is a unique combination of colour, form and artistic expression making them one of a kind!

Her work is inspired by her passion for both functional art as well as for the vessel form. It is a creative combination of form with function, craft with art which she feels ultimately brings beauty into and becomes a part of our everyday lives. The vessel form is one that she has been obsessed with in a variety of different media, from terracotta to glass to porcelain. It is a vehicle to bring to expression her ideas and feelings as an artist.

She has spent the better part of my working life blowing glass. The spontaneity and impulsiveness of the making process suited her nature and she enjoyed the feeling of immediacy it imparted.
