School Head School of Design
An architect by profession, and a teacher by trade, I became a designer after unsuccessfully trying my hand at learning to be a doctor, a civil engineer, and, finally, a ski bum. My B. Arch. degree and MS Arch. degree are both from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, which is not far from where I grew up in and around New York City.
Nidhip shifted to India in 2009 and has been teaching architecture and design full-time since then. Initially a visiting faculty at the School of Planning and Architecture and at NIFT, both in New Delhi, he joined Pearl Academy as a permanent faculty in 2014. He has been a practicing architect since 1997, working at several firms in the United States and eventually running his own small practice. His career has mostly been spent working on urban residential projects, but he has worked on commercial and institutional projects as well.
Like most architects, Nidhip is into many things related to art and design—art history, typography, graphic design, film, literature, and music. He strongly believes in the value of interdisciplinary design and tries to bring all of these things into his professional work and teaching. He enjoys travelling to cities around the world and a lot of his current research is in the evolution of urban design, especially in relation to how cities and urban spaces are changing due to the impact of technology and transportation. He is also interested in how technology and modern life is changing design education, which is something that he tries to deal with every day.
