India Skills competition 2016

The recently held India Skills competition 2016 witnessed huge participation from all across the nation. The top spots in the ‘Fashion Technology’ category were all won by Pearlites. While Abhishek Dangi stood first and won a cash prize of Rs. One lac, Vivek Mishra and Damanjeet Singh, second and third prize winners won 75,000 and 25,000 cash prize respectively. The winners will now go on to compete at WorldSkills International Competition to be held in Abu Dhabi. The competition is hosted by NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation). The same falls under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry was appointed as the lead partner for organizing the contest for ‘Fashion Technology’ category.

‘Runway to New Zealand’

Aishwarya Jain, Fashion Design student from Jaipur campus and Megha Sharma, Fashion Design student from Delhi NCR East centre won ‘Runway to New Zealand’ contest hosted by Education New Zealand and Fashion Design Council of India. Both Pearlites won an all-paid two-week internship in New Zealand.

These alumni have been making headlines with celebrities adorning their collection and flaunting the trendy styles. While Pranav Guglani and Neha Singh’s collection was worn by Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor was seen at Cannes flaunting the black and blue sari by Rimzim Dadu. Same time, alumna Aastha Sharma styled the diva Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s look at the Cannes Film Festival. Additionally, The June’s cover pic of Cine Blitz magazine with Jacqueline was styled and designed by another alumna Anushka Lal from Jaipur campus.

Selected finalists to show at the iD International Emerging Awards 2016 in Dunedin

Shaivyya Gupta, a Fashion Design student from our Jaipur campus recently did us extremely proud. Her entry has been selected as one of the finalists to show at the iD International Emerging Awards 2016 in Dunedin, New Zealand. She was selected from a pool of over 160 entries representing 15 countries and 14 exemplary fashion schools. This year’s selection panel – fashion industry guru Denise L’Estrange-Corbet and designers Tanya Carlson, Adrian Hailwood and Sara Munro (Company of Strangers) were highly impressed with her stellar selection. The iD Dunedin Fashion Week is planned for March where she would be participating in the contest. All the best Shaivyya!

Kartik Verma won the prestigious James McGuire Business Plan Competition 2015. Kartik Verma from Fashion Business Management (FBM) course, Level-3, under the School of Creative Business at New Delhi centre has won the prestigious James McGuire Business Plan Competition 2015. His project ‘Assuage Mom’ won the 1st prize at the grand finale of the competition held in Miami, Florida on 10th June, 2015. Kartik was amongst the top 3 candidates in this competition and was selected from the shortlisted 20 candidates from 16 countries under the Laureate International Universities (LIU) Network. It is the first time that the award has been won by any institute in the Asia, Middle east , Australia and Africa region (AMEA).

The Creative Conscience Awards 2014

Shinny Jain has won one more accolade for her project ‘Last Errors of Plastic’ – Bronze award at ‘The Creative Conscience Awards 2014′, UK. Her project deals with sustainability by creating garments through weaving recycled plastic from biscuit and crisp packets in order to highlight recyclability of the plastic they are made from. It also gives materials usually dumped in landfill a new life, as well as generating employment for women in India.

Shinny went to UK to attend the awards ceremony and came back victorious with another feather in her cap.She also won “Creativity 43rd Print & Packaging Awards” (Creativity International Award, Louisville, KY) for her concept “Reusing of package waste”. There were over 1100 entries from around the globe and her entry was selected as an example of outstanding creative design. The aim of the project is to develop garments out of package wrappers i.e. wrappers of Kurkure, Lays and biscuits etc. and other plastic waste to promote sustainability. The idea is to bring a change in the society where people are more aware of the current waste prevailing in the world and start collecting plastic wrappers as they collect newspaper for raddi-walas.

Made in India Competition

Talented Pallav’s idea of contemporary handcraft design ‘Simplicity with a touch of anarchism’ brought home winner’s trophy of Made in India Competition by BE OPEN Foundation. He also won a cash prize of 1500 dollars. Pallav designed a Scarf collection of dyed fabrics that reflected and resembled the beauty and purity of Pangong Lake in Pangong Tso, his inspiration for this collection. Each scarf is a unique piece of fabric, which has been delicately folded, resisted and dyed. Earlier in the year, Pallav had also presented a handcrafted scarf to none other than Condoleezza Rice, former US secretary of state, during her visit to India.

Marking a victory at Wills Lifestyle’s ‘The Debut’, our student Mridul Jacob bagged the title trophy at the grand finale held at New Delhi. Winner Mridul’s collection was named ‘Saddle Up’ and was based on the theme of men’s work-wear. Especially catering to the needs of men who cycle to work in Milan, the ensembles have been tailored with fabrics that assist cycling during winter. Exhilarated and surprised at his win, Mridul Jacob, the final year student of Pearl Academy, Chennai, and the winner of the seventh edition of ‘The Debut’ was thankful to the jury and the almighty. This prestigious award has been won by Pearl Academy students for the last 5 years.

Divya Malik represented Pearl Academy at the premier Laureate International Universities (LIU) World Business Forum (WBF) on 1st and 2nd October 2013 at Radio City music hall in New York City. WBF is an annual forum on business which is attended by over 5000 delegates. This forum included eminent world leaders and industry experts like Jeb Bush, Jack Welsch, Gordon Brown and many more who delivered lectures on global issues and on leadership and innovation. Divya’s presentation was also chosen as the best one among all the twenty projects by the students at WBF.
