This program is a two-year comprehensive, holistic industry-oriented pathway that trains the students to develop as professionals and entrepreneurs in the field of marketing and/or merchandising by providing extensive knowledge and technical, behavioral skills in the core functional areas of Merchandising, Marketing, Branding, Integrated Marketing Communications, Product Development, Sourcing and Range Planning. Pearl Academy trains students to be professionals who have the capacity to conceptually and critically think and analyze complex problems to propose intelligent and compatible solutions in the domain of fashion business.

At the start the course engages the student to understand the overview of global fashion and lifestyle industry. It has been designed such that it encompasses the gamut of fashion value chain-raw materials to retailing and basic marketing principles. It also provides knowledge and understanding of the fashion design process, communication channels, terminology and fabric qualities and their applications in fashion products. It will help them acquire and develop an understanding of design and market perspective on all levels of the Fashion Merchandising & Production. The course also emphasis on Design Thinking, which aims to develop in students an appreciation and understanding of what design contributes to business.

Later semester will focus on building high level of fashion business competencies and knowledge along with efficient communication in the students. The students will be prepared for outside world by sharpening their knowledge and skills for operations, Marketing and Merchandising to prepare for the live-Industry projects. Research tools and techniques suitable to the specialism will be used to interpret the reality of the fashion business world. The students will get an opportunity to undertake an overseas exchange or an Internship with a fashion and lifestyle brand.

The course will run on a blended model with face to face and online interaction where the LMS will host the content by reflective blogs as well as discussions.

Introduction to Fashion

This module enables the student to understand the overview of global fashion and lifestyle industry. It has been designed in a way that it encompasses the gamut of fashion value chain, raw materials to retailing and basic marketing principles. It also provides knowledge and understanding of the fashion design process, communication channels, terminology, fibers, yarns, fiber construction and fabrics qualities and their applications in fashion products. It will help them acquire and develop an understanding of design and market perspective on all levels of the fashion merchandising and production.

Business Environment-I

This module is devoted into acquiring comprehension of business functions such as finance, accounts & economics. It also aims to provide an understanding of the processes of management, the needs and contexts of organizations and the contribution of the main business functions to the organization’s objectives. The purpose of this module is to begin the development of an integrated understanding of critical perspective of management and organizations and of the functional areas.

Business Research

This module provides the opportunity for debate, in-depth research, analytical ability to investigate consumers, markets and statistical techniques and subsequent analysis of situations for decision making.

Business Communication This module strives to develop capacity to communicate ideas, meanings, messages and information through discussion, presentation, critique, writing, noting, annotation, reporting, and essaying. It also serves to inculcate ICT capacities across basic and semi-specialized software.

Design Thinking

This module aims to develop in students an appreciation and understanding of what design contributes to business. It introduces students to the fashion sector by taking a creative and exploratory approach to basic practice based research while exploring broad based fashion and design issues. It enhances understanding of cultural, social and political change to design innovation. Cross module assessment in the semester will facilitate the integration of subject matter across the four modules.

Buying and Production Processes

This module will acquaint students with the core functions of Merchandising and Vendor development which includes merchandising operations. It also familiarizes the students with the supporting software’s and systems.

Business Marketing and Communication Design

This module facilitates the student to understand the concepts of marketing, branding, and digital marketing and its practical applications.

Advanced Business Research

This module will facilitate the students to conceptually understand advanced marketing research techniques, designs, tools to formulate for marketing strategies and plans for fashion business. This module also helps them to develop analytical skills through application of statistical tools. Cross-module assessment will enable the integration of subject matter across the four modules.

Business Environment II

This module facilitates learning of various concepts and skills required for the utilization and development of human resources and industrial relations for organizational effectiveness. It will also help the student’s ability to analyze the financial and economic environment including financial statements, accounting statements, valuation methods and investment.

Summer Internship

After year 1, students undergo 8 week summer internship in industry.

Strategic Fashion Marketing and Merchandising

This module will familiarize the students with advanced strategic concepts and applications of Marketing and Merchandising.

Entrepreneurship & Project Management

This module will facilitate students to ideate an entrepreneurial project and manage issues related to it.

SCM & Business Intelligence

This module facilitates the students to understand the crucial role of supply chain management to increase their efficiency and productivity in order to build a competitive advantage and business analytics skills.

Overseas Exchange / Internship

In this module, the student will get an opportunity to undertake an overseas exchange or an Internship with a fashion and lifestyle brand for 8 weeks

Industry Project

At semester 4, students have an in-depth and systematic understanding in applied areas and can work with theoretical and research based knowledge. The student is ready to undertake industry tasks with minimum guidance. The student will be engaged in professional practice and an industry linked live project or industry analysis projects.

International Exposure

On successful completion of this two year PG pathway, a student is awarded with Post Graduate Diploma validated by Domus Academy, Milan. The curriculum of this course is also developed in association with Domus Academy.

All PG Pathways at Pearl have an in-built 4-week exchange module (optional) at Domus Academy, Milan. This alliance gives them the following opportunities:-

1. Get a global experience and learn latest international trends.

2. Attend workshops, visit local factories/manufacturing units and interact with the industry experts of international market.

3. Domus Academy faculty members regularly visit Pearl Academy to to instill fresh learning in the students. Apart from international expertise, these experts bring immense cultural knowledge with them.


Through such exchanges programmes, Pearl ensures that the students learn not only the technical aspects of the domain but also a new culture. In 2016, over 80 students were a part of the exchange program to Domus Academy, Milan, Italy. These students were from all 3 centers and across various PG courses like Fashion Business, Fashion Design, Interior Design & Styling, Luxury Brands, Fashion Communication, Communication Design and Fashion Styling & Image Design.

 

Other International Opportunities
