This one-year diploma programme in Applied Photography will provide technical knowledge on digital photography with latest technology, award-winning photography works and an opportunity to discover your areas of interest through multiple options.
It will introduce the best practices & principles of imaging; basic understanding of photography and related equipment, history/Iconic photographers, backgrounds and props for different shoots; working with models and art directors and, most importantly, understanding the story board/subject from the art director/client, lighting, outdoor /indoor /studio.
The course will help students to develop competency in creative visualisation and expression of a theme/story/mood/personality through the medium of photography and produce professional quality prints by applying production principles for applied photography.
This module is aimed at building a basic grounding for photography techniques. It will introduce the technical and artistic aspects of digital photography – how digital cameras work, how to take good pictures using them.
Students will learn about camera controls, ISO, metering, exposure, choosing the right lens and also understand how and when to use optional accessories like filters and tripods.
The module also includes outdoor shooting assignments for capturing architecture, candid moments etc.
This module will introduce students to depth of field, color theory, white balance settings and how these affect the color of light, as well as exposing for directional light – front lighting, side lighting, top lighting and back lighting. Shooting sessions in studio and outdoors will help students to understand the power and potential of light and shadow using natural light, available light and other artificial light sources to illuminate subjects.
Students will gradually attain proficiency in shooting with digital SLR cameras and standard lenses for still imaging through individual shooting assignments mentored by faculty.
The module will also introduce various streams of photography – landscape, architectural, fashion, product, wildlife, wedding and journalism.
This module will provide students an opportunity to work on theme-based project and lighting exercises to create interesting and dynamic compositions.
The assigned projects will culminate into a professional portfolio that could be used for seeking job opportunities.
Through a series of assignments and critiques, this module will encourage independent thought-process and help them to consolidate their technical and artistic understanding in their area of interest for their final project. And, build up on the applied knowledge of photographic production and post production to create own portfolio of images.
Organized visits to the workplace and studios of master photographers will be scheduled to provide exposure to the real world situations.
