This course offers in-depth knowledge in Women’s Wear category with special emphasis on Indian method of cutting and tailoring as well as western styling for today’s consumers. The 11 months duration is divided into three trimesters.
The 11 months Diploma in Fashion Women’s Wear (FWW) brings with it experience and expertise of qualified faculty and a curriculum that has been planned for specific industry requirements. A team of professionals, fashion designers and lecturers will support the learning. It will provide dedicated studio space, access to computing labs, a well-stocked library and a learning environment to help students explore and experiment. This course is an ideal platform for those who are interested in setting up small-scale enterprises and those who want to have an understanding of fashion to confirm one’s aspirations and lead to a specialized area of interest. The course is uniquely structured, blending cultural and contemporary sensibilities covering inputs in core areas of domestic fashion.
|Stage 1||Skill development and familiarizing stage:|
|Fashion Design I
||The aim is to provide fundamental building blocks of design process with focus on line, shape, tone, colour, scale and space. The ideas are expressed in two dimensional format with simple forms and colour composition as layouts.
The garment context is taught through Fashion in Indian context where the students start by understanding visuals of Indian handicraft based garments. The knowledge is constructed by practicing sketching skills and visual research in step-by-step exercises with emphasis on Primary data collection.
|Fashion Realization I
||This module provides students with basics of garment making process using women’s wear blocks. This module will give an opportunity to explore the basic components of a garment and practically create them. Moreover it will support the realization of concept ideation from design module into a 3D form applying textile techniques like hand embroidery and yarn craft ideas in Final Project stage. The final garments are styled for Indian domestic market using cotton fabrics.|
||This module provides students with fundamental knowledge about Fabric and Fibre in order to support their fabric choices and design decisions. It also gives an opportunity to know different hand-techniques and how they are applied to in Indian handicraft sector.|
|Stage 2||Exploration Stage:|
|Fashion Realization II
||This module provides students with an opportunity to explore traditional and creative approaches to flat pattern cutting to enhance understanding of fit, special detailing and simple construction techniques specific to women’s wear in Indian context.|
||This module provides students with an opportunity to create manipulate and rework visual depiction of design process ideas along with garments as working drawings/Flat sketches to communicate ideas in graphic language|
|Advanced Textiles and Craft
||This module provides students with an opportunity to develop understanding of India as an international handicraft and textile resource and how the industry operates in relation to its core identity and ethnic sensibility. Students will explore block printing, dyeing and screen printing in labs as well as in craft clusters.|
|Stage 3||Project Stage:|
|Concept & Design Development
||This module provides students with an opportunity to work on brief set by industry practitioner to create a framework of providing an insight into who will wear conceptualized clothes and how to go about designing to meet their needs. The project aims at designing with greater focus and understanding where intensive research in a variety of media as well as design development process with connect to cultural and craft sensibilities to produce one finished ensemble.|
||This module provides students with an opportunity to expand their understanding of the various nuances of the fashion business; and industry practices. This involves basic manufacturing principles, costing, branding and marketing.|
|Advanced Fashion Realization
||This module provides students with an opportunity to develop essential skills of self-directed and self-managed learning to translate complex 2D designs into fully realized garments within a defined envelope of resources and inputs received to produce experimental and modern design.|
The course aims at enabling students to design market relevant ranges using Indian sensibilities and techniques launch their own label, open a boutique or studio.
