Dr Sonika Soni Khar brings over two decades of experience pushing boundaries in design, education, research and practice. As a Fashion Design Faculty at Pearl Academy, she shares expertise gained from a groundbreaking career.

Dr Khar made her mark early on by designing costumes for the 2005 Oscar-nominated film Paheli. She also published the acclaimed book Dharohar, documenting India's craft heritage. Her collaborative garment called “Ganga: to Earth from Heaven” was selected as a finalist in the prestigious World of Wearable Art show in New Zealand. But that’s not it. She is also a co-founder of a brand called “Beyni-Boi.”

On the research front, Dr Khar has authored multiple papers and presented on ethical design processes internationally. She bridges theory and practice through product development, incorporating artisanal techniques. Her specialisations include zero-waste pattern making and experimental draping.

With decades of versatile achievements and a spirit of boundary-pushing innovation, Dr Khar empowers students to approach fashion design thoughtfully. Her leadership nurtures professionals who will shape the future of ethical and sustainable design.
