Sonika Soni KharAssociate Professor
Sonika has been involved in Design Education, practice and research for the last 14 years. She completed her graduation in Science from M.D. University, Rohtak and Diploma in Dress Designing and Apparel Merchandising from the International Institute of Fashion Technology (IIFT), New Delhi in 1997. She worked for a couple of years in the Fashion industry. In 1999, she did her FDP (Apparel Design) at National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad and was there for two years. In 2001, she shifted to Pune and joined Anjuman-e-Islam, a non-profit organization, as head of the Department of Dress Design. She worked on the costumes for Oscar-nominated film in foreign language category “Paheli”, directed by Amol Palekar. She joined SID as a founder-member in 2005 and has been involved in curriculum and infrastructure development. She played a pivotal role in curriculum and infrastructure development of Fashion Design and Fashion Communication courses. She has been teaching Design Methodology, Draped Design, Costume Design, Surface and Textile Crafts. From hardcore design education, she developed an interest in research and published and presented research papers at national and international conferences and in various peer reviewed journals. She has also initiated publication of the design project on documentation of costumes and accessories in the collection of Kelkar Museum, which is nearing publication.
