Pearl Academy and Setu Foundation Come Together to Empower Underprivileged Women

April 3, 2019, Noida: As part of Pearl Academy’s ongoing partnership with SETU Foundation to empower women and enhance their ability to  earn a better livelihood, 25 women today completed their 4-month certificate program in design, pattern making and construction skills.  To commemorate the occasion, a convocation ceremony was organized at Pearl Academy’s Noida Campus, where certificates of completion and merit were awarded to the trained women.

The convocation was also supplemented by a fashion show, where the final creations of these women were showcased to kick-start their journeys as design professionals. Top three performing students of the certificate program - Shalu Devi, Ruksar Tyagi and Rekha Rani were also felicitated with trophies for their outstanding performance during the course.

Mrs. Harpreet Sindhu, Director, Cornell Overseas was the chief guest at the event. The final showcase and ramp walk was well received by the attending audience.

Two years ago, as part of its CSR initiative, Pearl Academy joined hands with SETU Foundation, a Noida based NGO working for education and employability of under-privileged and disabled people. Through the course of the program, Pearl Academy trained women from SETU in specialized skills to help them secure better employment opportunities. Pearl has been providing specialized and skill based training to women trainers who in turn operate on ‘train the trainer’ model to impart skills to women through a certificate course. From the previous batch, 23 women successfully completed their 3 month certificate program in June, 2018.

Commenting on the initiative, Prof. Nandita Abraham, President, Pearl Academy said, Pearl Academy is committed to supporting the education and development of society. We have been working with SETU for two years now and the collaboration is truly enriching. We look forward to training many more women and we hope to empower them with skills that will help them make their niche in the design industry. Lastly, I want to congratulate the students and wish them all the very best for the future.

Mr. Ravi Kaul, Director, SETU, said - It brings me immense pride to see these women learn new skills with flying colors. This initiative has become a stepping stone for our community, and helps not just in creating employment opportunities but also helps women understand their strengths and boosts their confidence. I believe, the skills that these women have acquired through the training will help them tap opportunities that will help them grow. We are extremely thankful to Pearl Academy, for their support and help in empowering women and making them socially and economically independent.
