Learning in The New Reality
Learning from home and virtual classes have become the new normal for students. At Pearl Academy, we asked ourselves, how do we make learning in new reality more fun, engaging, and ensure that students don't compromise on their holistic education? How do we build a better, more sustainable tomorrow with the tools at our disposal?
We are engaged in this discussion, experimenting and constantly re-calibrating our approach – an example from last year being our agile response in helping our students continue their education from home, seamlessly. All our modules made a seamless transition to the web – live lab demos, virtual project development, industry projects, masterclasses and international modules, and more. Even for Pearl aspirants, we were ready with our all-new online avatar – open day style, online counseling and AI-assisted entrance examination. This however was only the beginning. We are moving towards a time that is bringing uncertainty at every step and at Pearl we are constantly adapting and evolving to beat these challenging times.
Here's a summary of how our students continued learning uninterrupted last year.
We went completely digital within a week of the announcement of the lockdown in March 2020, with our efficient Learning Module Systems (LMS) – Blackboard Ultra, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams. There were 1800+ weekly online classes organised by 300+ faculty members for 3000+ students across our campuses. We ensured that students continue upskilling by providing them free subscription of several online learning platforms such as Coursera, Business of Fashion, and IBM.
Students continued with their industry projects and interactive sessions with our partners such asSnapchat India, WACOM, Association of Designers of India (ADI), Fashion Revolution and Event & Entertainment Management Association (EEMA); Amazon India, Lifestyle and many more.
Students enjoyed masterclasses with experts, and international modules with faculty from various global institutes such as the Royal College of Art, Manchester Metropolitan University and Solent Southampton University.
Pearl Academy has partnered with an international platform for designers- Arts Thread- so that the students can showcase their work to the global fraternity. We set up more than 150 virtual jury boards that shared an industry perspective on their projects and mentored them regularly.
Despite difficult times due to the ongoing pandemic, Pearl Academy has provided placement to 96% of eligible students. Given the institute's goodwill in the industry and the quality of its students, companies are honouring the job offers they have made to the students. Pearl Academy is extending placement support to its alumni as well, for up to five years.
