The 2 Year PG Pathway in Fashion Communication course is designed for graduates wanting to develop careers in the fashion industry as fashion journalists (in print, digital or television), fashion photographers or even as event designers.

This Postgraduate professional programme places a higher emphasis on professional practice within a global context where individuals experience an industry-focused curriculum through regular interactions with media professionals, and projects aligned to some of the leading fashion publications or fashion brands in the country.

The curriculum offers a Project based approach through unique combination of fashion and media modules to cater to the educational objectives of each student. The PG Fashion Communication curriculum includes photography, fashion illustration, typography, layout design, trends, styling, fashion public relations, fashion films, event design and the creative use of new digital platforms.

Initially the course will impart understanding of the fashion & lifestyle industry affecting the fashion communication. It has been designed such that it encompasses the gamut of fashion communication tools and fashion studies. Student will get well versed in fashion terminology, analytical ability, understanding and using media. The course is designed to encompass knowledge of fashion communication through critiquing, films, styling, PR and events. Cross-module assessment will enable the integration of subject matter across the two modules.

This semester will focus on building higher level of fashion communication competencies and knowledge along with efficient communication in the students. Final Project provides for maximum opportunity to learn at the academy through research & application of a topic. This facilitates a student to create a unique pathway to a very meritorious achievement of final work, and to demonstrate a well-honed, possibly specialized, preparation and fine-tuning to the world of work.

Fundamentals of Art and Design

The aim of the module is to trigger inquiry, curiosity and bring all learners from diverse backgrounds to a common platform of design understanding, in the process, making them ready for design learning in their specific design disciplines. The module aims to develop visual & design vocabulary in learners. The student is introduced to visual language, fundamental theories & principles of design, evolution of art & design and encourages attitude of exploration and manipulation of acquired skills. The students learn basic techniques and understanding for design development through a process of observation, study, exploration, ideation, and perception. It enables the learner to interpret and analyse visual and textual information to develop perception and ideas for expression.

Fashion, Culture & Lifestyle

The module will provide an insight into international fashion designers, their philosophies and design orientations. It will help develop skills to appreciate, analyse fashion and develop skills to be able to interpret and present basic design ideas in an appropriate manner. The module will give students an understanding of historic, traditional and contemporary fashion and textiles forms and images. They will trace its evolution through different periods and study its impact on lifestyle, influences of global economic changes and socio- cultural environment. This module will give them a context to understand the industry that touches across all cultures of the world. It will also help them grasp and comprehend fashion terminology.

Fashion Communication – I & II

The module aims to develop writing skills and visual skills to communicate fashion. It will enable exploratory work using visual and technical skills.

The advance part in the module will build on knowledge and skills gained in Semester one that means Fashion Reporting will be taken to the next level that is critiquing principles, trend analysis, design & application of online media. Previous learnings of editorial illustration, techniques, graphic design, and typography and television media will be applied during class assignments and project. Students will develop skills of visualization, representation and appreciation of three dimensional forms in apparel through fashion styling.

Fashion Public Relations – I & II

The module introduces the student to concepts in public relations, brand management (brand positioning, brand building and measuring) as applied to the fashion system. It gives input in global fashion brands to contextualize international fashion system. The advance part in the module is an introduction to the concept of luxury fashion brands, strategies and public relations specific to luxury fashion. In this module, students will also be introduced to Event design tools and principles will now be applied for creative conceptualization of events for fashion/luxury brands.

Broadcast Media & Fashion – I

The module aims to help you develop observation and understanding of the basics of the audio visual medium and providing you with skills to create audio visual concepts specific to Fashion. Understanding the dynamics of the television newsroom will be an integral part of the module.

Fashion Communication – III

The module will build on knowledge and skills gained in level 1. Fashion Reporting will be taken to the next level that is critiquing principles, trend analysis, design & application of online media. Previous learnings of editorial illustration, techniques, graphic design and typography and television media will be applied during class assignments and project.

Students will develop skills of visualization, representation and appreciation of three dimensional forms in apparel through fashion styling and conceptual events.

Broadcast Media & Fashion – II

The module aims to build on knowledge and skills gained in semester 2 and develop critical knowledge of how the Audio-Visual media operates. The module will enable students to execute high order communication solutions with a thorough understanding of the different needs of the fashion industry. Previous learnings of television media will be applied during class assignments and project.

Industry Internship

The internship exposes students to prevalent commercial and industrial practice and reinforces theoretical knowledge with practical experience. It helps develop the ability to work as an effective and willing member of a team and sharpen problem-solving skills and provide an understanding of the pressures of the fast-moving media industry.

Industry-based project/Live project

The Industry Project will expose the student to prevalent commercial and industrial practice and reinforce theoretical knowledge with practical experience. It will help develop ability to work as an effective and willing member of a team and sharpen problem-solving skills and provide an understanding of the pressures of the fast-moving media industry.

Final Project

The module aims to draw upon and integrate the learning of the modules completed in Semesters 1 to 3 and apply these to identify, innovate fashion media solutions.

International Exposure

On successful completion of this two year PG pathway, a student is awarded with Post Graduate Diploma validated by Domus Academy, Milan. The curriculum of this course is also developed in association with Domus Academy.

All PG Pathways at Pearl have an in-built 4-week exchange module (optional) at Domus Academy, Milan. This alliance gives them the following opportunities:-

1. Get a global experience and learn latest international trends.

2. Attend workshops, visit local factories/manufacturing units and interact with the industry experts of international market.

3. Domus Academy faculty members regularly visit Pearl Academy to to instill fresh learning in the students. Apart from international expertise, these experts bring immense cultural knowledge with them.


Through such exchanges programmes, Pearl ensures that the students learn not only the technical aspects of the domain but also a new culture. In 2016, over 80 students were a part of the exchange program to Domus Academy, Milan, Italy. These students were from all 3 centers and across various PG courses like Fashion Business, Fashion Design, Interior Design & Styling, Luxury Brands, Fashion Communication, Communication Design and Fashion Styling & Image Design.

 

Other International Opportunities
