Welcome to the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) program in Interior Architectural Design (IAD) at Pearl Academy. Our Interior Architectural Design course aims to blend design principles, aesthetics, functionality and technical skills to create environments that enhance your learning experience.
Open to high-school graduates from any stream, this course provides students with a good foundation in design, technical skills and aesthetics. Our curriculum is built to teach students core design principles, software skills, spatial principles, material explorations and practical applications in real life projects and professional practice.
The course aims to nurture students into versatile professionals with a contextual understanding and a global perspective, capable of collaborating and innovating in the spatial design industry.
Program Curriculum
The Bachelor of Design (B.Des) program in Interior Architectural Design (IAD) at Pearl is crafted to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of both theory and practice in interior design. The course begins with the foundation program which delves into the fundamentals of design with a focus on spatial and material exploration. Additionally, students receive training in visual representation and industry-standard design tools and software, including CAD tools.
Students also learn the history of design and learn to contextualise their skills to the needs of the client and project at hand. This learning covers a wide variety of skills in professional practice, which they pick up as a result of industry collaborations and real-life projects, in India and internationally. They also learn to explore areas of key interest in today’s world - such as sustainability, inclusivity and social responsibility.
Students learn to specialise - they look into specific fields such as residential design, commercial lifestyle spaces, workplaces and so on. Each step prepares them for the real world industry, equipped with critical thinking skills, problem solving and adaptability.
Graduates of our B.Des. course in Interior Architectural Design (IAD) come out equipped with an industry relevant skill set, and a principle-led understanding of design - that places them in good stead, in the global design landscape.
The mode of learning
Learning at Pearl is hybrid, in line with a rapidly evolving digital world. Students of the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) course in Interior Architectural Design at Pearl learn through a mix of in-person studio experience, helping them collaborate and gain hands-on experience of all the principles, materials and tools taught to them.
They also have access to online learning modules, ensuring they can stay seamlessly abreast of their curriculum.

The four-year course of our Interior Architectural course is an exciting journey for students, as they embark on an adventure of discovery and creativity.
The first year is all about finding their own unique space and identity within the design field. It includes foundational design skills, spatial skills, material exploration as well as software tool introductions. These form the basis of their learning.
The second year takes them into the depth of their subjects. Students gain an introduction to various space typologies, such as different formats of residential design. They learn to work with materials, construction techniques, services, furnishings, and the latest design trends in a hands-on manner in Pearl’s well-equipped studio.
In their third year, students study commercial space design as well as speculative design for community spaces. Since they involve serving a large number of people, these topics help them learn nuances that influence design choices. Here, they collaborate with international academic partners, broadening their horizons and bringing a global perspective to their work.
The fourth year marks a culmination of the curriculum - extending hands-on experience to students through internships and live industry projects. They conclude their academic journey with a major research project that helps them utilise everything they have learnt across the past years, in a real-life project, showcasing their skillset and creating a capstone project that represents their design style.
We offer a two-week overseas visit to a partner institution at no extra cost. This exposure expands your horizons and gives you a global perspective on Interior Architecture, Designing and styling

A. Completing a B. Des. in Interior Architectural Design program can unlock a variety of job opportunities both in India and abroad. Graduates can easily find work as Interior Designers, either as freelancers or for a design firm, an architecture studio, or a construction firm. They also have the option of alternative careers, such as working as set designers for films or production houses, visual merchandisers for retail companies, exhibition designers for museums and galleries, independent design consultants, project managers in the construction industry, and so on,

A. Pearl Academy offers the Who’s Next Scholarship to all its applicants for the academic year 2024. In the academic year 2021-22, 16 students were granted scholarships in the Interior Architecture Design course, with a 20% to 100% waiver in tuition fees.
The scholarship criteria varies based on academic merit, financial need, and other factors. Prospective students who meet the eligibility criteria may apply for the scholarship at the time of admission by submitting the necessary documents.
We also give student loan assistance to those who require it. With these financial aid options, we aim to make quality education accessible to deserving students and encourage them to pursue their passion by studying at Pearl Academy.
A. The curriculum for the B. Des. in Interior Architectural Design program is meticulously designed by industry experts with years of practical experience in the field.
The first year curriculum includes the basics of Natural and Built Environment, Design Abilities, History and Narratives, and various immersion labs. These courses form the foundation of their design skills.
In the second year, the curriculum emphasises Design Culture, Digital Fabrication, Hand Drawing and Modeling, Spatial Design, Digital Drawings, and Construction Detailing. These courses equip students with practical tools to effectively implement and bring their projects to fruition.
The third year curriculum comprises Cultural Studies, Digital Design Tools, International Lab Experience and Advanced Digital tools.These components, complemented by projects and internships, contextualise learning and allow for in-depth exploration.
The final year curriculum introduces students to Problem Setting, FutureLABS Studio, Social Enterprise Project, Business Tools for Designers. Students also learn courses on Professional Practice, and are guided on building their portfolio. The program culminates in a final project which teaches students to apply and demonstrate all their learning in one brief.
A. Pearl Academy offers a B. Des. in Interior Architectural Design program for candidates planning to study interior design after their 12th standard, from any recognized board. Students from any stream and background in their PU, Junior College or 11th and 12th may apply to the program.
The eligibility criteria for the program are as follows:
- Candidates must have passed their 10+2 examination from any recognized board or universities.
- Candidates must have scored a minimum of 50% marks in their 10+2 examination.
- Candidates appearing in their final examination can also apply provisionally.
- Besides these above criteria, candidates must clear the Pearl Academy Design Aptitude Test (DAT) and General Proficiency Test (GPT).
