This year the finalists of Redress Design Award presented their dynamic collections created entirely from waste textiles to an international audience in September in Hong Kong. Finalists were selected from 11 different countries and this year, for the first time, we had Indian designer Seerat Virdi– an alumni of Pearl Academy on the list. Through her collection, Seerat's aim was to inspire and influence consumers to reuse and re-purpose their clothes by creating a contrast to today’s fast-paced fashion industry.
This year, for the first time in our history, one of our students got the incredible opportunity to be a part of the prestigious Graduate Fashion Week in London. Fashion Design student Surya Pratap Singh was selected as one of the finalists and showcased his collection at the ‘Swarovski International Showcase’ at the GFW, London
PG Fashion Communication student Suhail Suri won the Adobe Design Achievement Award 2018 in the commercial photography category. He received the award at the Adobe MAX conference in Los Angeles. Suhail is the only winner from India and one of the only three from Asia, to win this prestigious award.
PG Fashion Design student Ashita Singhal won the prestigious James McGuire Business Plan Competition 2018 and cash prize of 25000 USD for her sustainable business plan. Wanting to make a difference, she began envisioning a company that could turn textile waste into usable products; specifically, into fabric and garments, reducing waste and positively influencing the community. Ashita has also been shortlisted as one of the finalists at Lexus Design Awards in the textile category.
