David Goldsmith
Prof. David Goldsmith, Adjunct Professor at Parsons The New School and a PhD Candidate at The Swedish School of Textiles at the University of Borås, came to our Jaipur Campus to discuss sustainability 'the true definition ' with the faculty and students of Pearl Academy, Jaipur. The key element that came out of the discussion was the perception of sustainability in developed vs developing countries. While in the western world it is about decreasing consumerism and consumption, in the developing countries it is about artisans’ livelihoods and preservation of the craft. Responsible fashion and awareness towards environmental concerns related to pollution because of fast fashion were other areas of concern actively discussed at the forum. Overall, it was an enriching experience for faculty and students both as it helped define as well as broaden the definition of sustainability.
