Interaction Design

Scope/ Areas covered: Web/App design, user interface & user experience design, digital media, game design.

Employment Sectors: IT companies, E-commerce, E-learning, Advertising Agencies, Digital Publication Houses, Gaming Companies, Corporate Houses, MNC’s requiring Data visualization, MNC’s like Samsung, Whirpool etc.

The 2 Year PG Pathway in Communication Design equips students for content development in diverse media like print media, motion graphics, film and television, photography, digital media, web and app design, and other interactive applications. It helps students to develop a personal and visual vocabulary using hand skills, artistic expression, and creative strategy, along with appropriate software tools. After a basic exposure to design thinking and conceptualization, the pathway follows a flexible elective curriculum covering a wide range of communication design specializations.

The course starts with a basic overview of Design will be established to embed a Foundation to becoming a Design thinker or Design strategist. The course aims to formulate a fundamental foundation and build a sound, basic grounding for later disciplinary competencies in the domain. The modules like ‘Design Context’ and ‘Image Creation’ will introduce and provide the conceptual, theoretical and applied knowledge for Graphic Design and Advertising. The basics of Communication Design and its impact across industries will also be introduced along with key research methods, analytical ability to investigate consumers, markets and techniques used in analysis of markets and end users.

Later the students will begin to consolidate learning in design thinking and media, and apply it to solve design problems in graphics/ advertising communication. The students are encouraged to come to terms with reality of the Design Management world. Later the student will be engaged in professional practice and industry linked live project or industry analysis projects. This will give opportunity to the student to critically evaluate, reflect and perform effectively in professional environment. The student works on a problem solving industry project content of which will relate to Communication Design processes.

Fundamentals of Art & Design
Design Context (Design Theories, Methods and Processes)
Image Creation (Visualization Techniques)

As the intake of students is from diverse backgrounds, the first semester focuses on initiating the student into the fundamentals of Design Concepts and Processes starting by educating them about the fundamentals of art & design.

Introduction to Print
Introduction to Audio Visual
Introduction to Interactive Media

In the second semester, the students are given domain –specific inputs on the various specializations available within Communication Design. Students will be taught the basics of the Print Media through Graphic Design, Colour, Typography, etc. Similarly in Audio Visual Media, they will study basics of Narrative, Film, TV, Animation, etc. They also have the option to study overseas at Domus Academy, Milan.

The final year is comprised of an Industry Internship, a Live Project and their Final project.

International Exposure

On successful completion of this two year PG pathway, a student is awarded with Post Graduate Diploma validated by Domus Academy, Milan. The curriculum of this course is also developed in association with Domus Academy.

All PG Pathways at Pearl have an in-built 4-week exchange module (optional) at Domus Academy, Milan. This alliance gives them the following opportunities:-

1. Get a global experience and learn latest international trends.

2. Attend workshops, visit local factories/manufacturing units and interact with the industry experts of international market.

3. Domus Academy faculty members regularly visit Pearl Academy to to instill fresh learning in the students. Apart from international expertise, these experts bring immense cultural knowledge with them.


Through such exchanges programmes, Pearl ensures that the students learn not only the technical aspects of the domain but also a new culture. In 2016, over 80 students were a part of the exchange program to Domus Academy, Milan, Italy. These students were from all 3 centers and across various PG courses like Fashion Business, Fashion Design, Interior Design & Styling, Luxury Brands, Fashion Communication, Communication Design and Fashion Styling & Image Design.

 

Other International Opportunities
