The first year will be common for all the learners and will orient the learners to the fundamentals of the media and communication industry. The first two semesters will ensure that the learners are exposed to the different facets of the US$ 22.28 billion Indian media and communication industry.

At the end of the first year (first two semesters), the learners can choose any of three available pathways – (A) Multimedia Journalism, (B) Entertainment and (C) Brand Communication. This is when the learners go deep into their chosen areas.

During the first common year, the learners will study eight basic areas in media and communication: (A) Fundamentals of Visual Communication, (B) Communication Theories, Models, Management and Media Laws, (C) Media Research and Applications, (D) Multimedia Content Development, (E) Multimedia Audio and Visual Production, (F) Consumer Behaviour and Audience Studies, (G) Integrated Brand and Marketing Communication, and (H) Digital Communication.

A learner deciding to leave the course after the successful completion of the first common year (two semesters) will receive a Basic Diploma while she/ he will receive a Specialized Professional Diploma in any of the three pathways if she/ he successfully completes both the years.


(A) Multimedia Journalism: The first of its kind in the country, this course primarily focuses on media-neutral journalism across all media platforms. Along with the conventional print and electronic media journalism, this course decidedly emphasizes on new media journalism. The fundamental idea is to inculcate the requisite skills amongst the learners to seamlessly narrate stories across all the viable platforms – offline (print), online (web), on air (radio and television) and on mobile.

The covered areas include (i) Television News, Radio and Documentary, (ii) MoJo and Convergence, (iii) Photography and Entrepreneurship and (iv) Investigative and Development Reporting.

(B) Brand Communication: A uniquely developed programme, this course covers all the aspects of brand communication (online, offline, on air, on ground and on mobile). The course will inculcate the required skills amongst students to communicate brands and market them effectively. The tools that will be encompassed are advertising, public relations, events management, digital marketing and branding and direct marketing communication.

The covered areas include (i) Brand Management, (ii) Digital Branding and Convergence, (iii) Advertising and Entrepreneurship and (iv) Events, Public Relations and Development.
