Creating fashion does not just entail a vivid imagination and instinct for creativity. It also involves many decisions and myriad techniques, focused on a central idea. Pearl Academy's Fashion Design course with a 4 Year UG Pathway builds a strong foundation in terms of design sense, conceptualization, independent research, creative application and individual artistic expression.

Fashion Design runs the gamut from eveningwear to sportswear, womenswear to menswear, and kidswear to knitwear. Students are asked to choose their area of interest and sharpen their creative ideas. Students are also introduced to various historic fashion and art movements as exemplars and how these influence contemporary fashion. This is the very reason why fashion houses, designer labels, luxury brands, apparel retail brands and ready-to-wear fashion industries seek our students.

The main focal point of the course is to provide a graduate learning pathway through distinct levels of subject competencies and differentiated areas of in depth learning in the field of apparel fashions and design. It shall nurture the personal creativity of the students, and encourage innovations in design thinking to develop as an autonomous learner, thinker and practitioner. It will also motivate the students to develop intellectual and critical thinking in their work through rigorous research enquiry, evaluation and application.

At the starting of the course, the main aim is to break inhibition and to encourage unlearning of set ways, experiencing and sensitizing the senses for design learning. The students are encouraged to learn and develop sensitivity to take up the challenges to demonstrate their personal design philosophy. They are given exposure to different areas of design and will be learning design vocabulary which will become important learning for their core discipline areas. The students shall be able to explore learning opportunities that expose students to all facets of the fashion industry and fashion value chain and Craft exposure and learning that can be integrated with mainstream designing.

At intermediate level, the course shall build In-depth understanding and specialization for Fashion manipulation and related technical skills to enable design and process development of varied apparel categories which shall be facilitated through Industry internships, exposure through industry projects and continuous interaction with industry experts and professionals in class-room environment and professional context. At advanced level of the study, it will provide industry relevant, collaborative and / or independent working opportunities, through Independent individual projects and modular workshops to enhance the awareness and professional development as a critically reflective practitioner of the broader aspects of the creative apparel industry from design, production and market viability in the context of socio-political and cultural environment.

Speaking about Pearl Academy, well it's more than what I expected and what I heard from alumni. The exposure it gives, the opportunities we get are highly valuable and helpful. My experience in the foundation year was quite amazing. I got to work as a part of pearl's marketing team (Digital Ninja), I got a chance to visit portfolio of Pearl Academy which was an remarkable experience. The faculty, the infrastructure everything is just on point and of course the new campus in Rajouri Garden (Delhi)is even better.

Being in the fashion design industry and working in core design development is very challenging, yet extremely exciting. The turning point started with Masters in Fashion at Pearl Academy. Ever since, it has been an enriching experience being involved in various design projects with Tarun Tahiliani, Pearl Academy, Rohit Bal and the Middle East market and many more. Like a Pandora’s Box unfolding, the joy of designing is so contagious that all this seems just the beginning.”

I have studied Fashion Design from Pearl Academy. Since then, my vision for a career in Fashion was to create clothes for special occasions, be it a wedding gown for a bride, a red-carpet outfit for a celebrity or any couture garment. Clothes, to me, are the language of a wearer and a glimpse of their personality. My journey and growth as a designer has provided context to my creativity.

Entering into the big beautiful world of creativity is what I thought I was doing when I joined Pearl Academy. It didn’t take more than a week for the institution to make me realise that it was going to be that and so much more. From the Pow Wow week which is an ice breaker for the students to interact with all others, regardless of their course, to the final submissions week in second year, the journey has been so enriching. Designing is one thing that can come from a personal source of inspiration but it has to fulfil the needs or wants of other people. At the least you learn how to relate, communicate, and differentiate at the same time. Fashion Design in particular has been such a consuming creative course to be a part of. The days that turn into nights and the labs that turn into your second home is what makes it so special. It is one course that more or less makes you do everything. From the power of observation to find inspiration, to travelling to source your products, to the knowledge of fabrics, to the skill of sewing, to the art of presentation, to communicating to put together your team for the final photoshoot, to our savior Adobe. Pearl Academy really does provide you with the right platform to be able to do everything, with alumni to look up to and collaborations to benefit from. In my opinion, freedom to do and freedom to be is really the key.
